This Himalayan district has border with both India in the east and China in the North.  There are 48 VDC and 1 Municipality but Lelep, Olangchung Gola, Yamfudin and Tapethok VDC have occupied 56% area of the district. Mount Kanchenjunga which is the 3rd highest mountain of the world and 2nd highest mountain of Nepal lies in this district. The people in this district are of ethnic community which includes people such as Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, Gurung, Newar etc. The inhabitants mostly follow Buddhist religion. It also has lot of natural sceneries with spectacular landscapes, Himalayan Peaks, Flora and Fauna and wild animals. This region is known as a tourist area in the world as lot of people from different countries visit this place for trekking and mountaineering. Though there is a lot of attraction in this district due to these factors, it is very much tragic that it is geographically remote district. The native populaces of the district are of backward class due to lack of economic and social consciousness.

Since government has not been able to give proper attention to this particular area, we have felt the need to develop fraternity among the populace of Taplejung District by the help of the people living in Kathmandu by organizing and unifying them in order to strengthen the economic aspect of the Kanchenjunga Area by conducting various skill oriented programs, social awareness programs and to carry on other development works in the said area.

For this purpose we have promulgated the Statute of Kanchenjunga Buddhist Social Service, 2061 for the development of the Kanchenjunga area as well as the community living in that area. Our organization will focus on Education, Health Care, Tourism Promotion, Development of Physical Infrastructure, Expansion of Communication Services and other activities which will enable the people of this are for self-empowerment.
